The Romantic meets the Contemporary in “Love, Waltzes, and Luminous Skies,” a program that explores human connection, celestial light, and emotional harmony through Johannes Brahms’ complete Liebeslieder Waltzes (Op. 52 and Op. 65), works by American composers James Mulholland, Morten Lauridsen, and Shawn Kirchner, and poetry by Georg Friedrich Daumer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Rainer Maria Rilke, Robert Burns, James Agee, and John Adam Granade. These works are connected in a variety of compelling ways: musically, textually, stylistically, and thematically.
